The Flatout Factory hosted an all new competition for 2015, The UK Drift Grand Slam.
The UK Drift Grand Slam was the creation of Tom Hutchison and Luke Fink. Both wanted to bring a new and fresh approach to competitive drifting in the UK. Keen to incorporate a tyre rule to the competition similar to the Drift Challenge Australia. The reasoning behind the tyre rule is that we wanted to promote super close twinning battles and stop tyre budgets from becoming an expensive advantage to be gained by drivers. Weight limits were set and sizes allocated to cars with in these classes along with banning track day and semi slick tyres from use. It was no longer a case of the best tyre giving the best advantage, the playing field was now much more even.
The UK Drift Grand Slam wanted to be so much more than 'just' a drift competition, we wanted it to be an event to entertain the whole family.
The UK Drift Grand Slam had a huge prize pot for a UK Drifting competition. Including the grand prize of £1000 for the winner, with more cash, voucher and product prizes for the following catagories ;
Turbosmart UK award for 'Spirit of Drift'
Superdrift and Everything Drift.com award for 'Hard Charger'
EPRacing award for 'Best Styled car of the event'
Held over 2 days at the Flatout Factory's home track of Birmingham Wheel Park it attracted some of the best drifters in the UK including both ex British Drift Champions such as Jay White, Dan Firminger, Willie Rose and many more alongside international competitors Martin Richards and Richard Grindrod.
The weather was glorious and over 20 hours of open track time saw plenty of action to keep the spectators amused including some of the most exciting final battles we have ever seen at the venue.
We would like to thank all the sponsors that were involved in helping to make this happen, all the drivers that attended and drove so hard and all the spectators that came to cheer them on! A special thank you to the Team Red Mist drivers that took the lads from Blesma charity out for passenger rides!
Next year we will be running the UK Drift Grand Slam 2016 again. If you want to keep up to date with the news as it is announced follow the event on Facebook.
